It’s Week 6 at WestConn, and there’s a cornucopia of on-campus events this week, so remember: exams and papers come and go, but school spirit is forever.
On Monday, Men’s Golf will tee off at 9 a.m. for the second day of the Blazer Invitational, hosted by Elms College. In what I can imagine will be far less competitive golf, the WCSU Alumni Association will host The Neil Wagner Golf Outing at the Richter Park Golf Club beginning at 10 a.m. Women’s Tennis will host John Jay at 3:30 p.m. on the Westside Tennis Courts, and Women’s Soccer takes on Manhattanville at 6 p.m. in the WAC.
If you’d rather flex your mental muscles, the WCSU Integrative Biological Diversity graduate program, WCSU NOAA BWet Finding Our Way Office of Science Education Outreach and Praxair will host the Fall 2019 Regional Lake Communities Symposium at 7 p.m. in Room 125 of the Science Building.
On Tuesday, the WCSU Libraries will host the first Human Library event in the Haas Library on Midtown. Women’s Tennis travels to Rhode Island College for 3:30 p.m. start, and Field Hockey hits the road for 3:45 p.m. start at Framingham St.
On Wednesday, WCSU and The Women’s Center of Greater Danbury will host “The Silent Witness Exhibit” in the Midtown Student Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The WCSU Career Success Center will host a Career Fair in the O’Neill Center from 1 to 4 p.m. Men’s Soccer kicks things off at John Jay at 4 p.m., Women’s Soccer hosts John Jay for 6 p.m. start in the WAC., and Volleyball travels to Lehman for 7 p.m. start.
In the first of two jazz-related events this week, the WCSU Jazz faculty–including Dr. Jimmy Greene and Jamie Begian–will host a Chamber Jazz Master Class at 8 p.m. in Room 108 of the VPAC.
On Thursday, WCSU and The Women’s Center of Greater Danbury will host the second “The Silent Witness Exhibit” in the Westside Campus Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The WCSU Office of Financial Aid will host FAFSA Day, a program offering assistance to families preparing to file for federal financial aid, in Room 127 of White Hall from 4 to 6 p.m. Sodexo and the Office of InterCultural Affairs will host “A Taste of Latin X,” where students can sample food from a variety of Latin countries, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. in the Westside Campus Center Marketplace.
As promised, you’ll have a second chance to get your jazz on when members of WCSU’s Jazz Faculty perform at 8 p.m. in the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall of the VPAC. You can also stop by the Colonial Corner of the Midtown Student Center for Coffeehouse, beginning at 8 p.m.
On Friday, Men’s Golf tees off at 9 a.m. at Rhode Island College and Women’s Tennis heads to Farmingdale St. for a 3:30 p.m. start.
In what might be one of the more interesting events coming up this week, faculty and students in Bio 101 will take the stage in Room 125 of the Science Building for “Biology Follies,” beginning at 3:30 p.m.
On Saturday, WCSU and Nuvance Health will host Mission Health Day in the Bill Williams Gym in Berkshire Hall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can also head over to the Westside Observatory and Planetarium at 6 p.m. for a planetarium show with a telescope viewing of the sky from 7 to 9 p.m.
With the exception of Cross Country, Women’s Tennis, Men’s Soccer, Rugby, and Hockey, WestConn sports teams are spending their respective Saturdays at Keene State. Volleyball takes on the Owls at noon, followed by Westfield State at 2 p.m. Women’s Soccer will also start at 2 p.m., and Field Hockey will start at 2:30 p.m.
Men’s and Women’s Cross Country will head to Mount St. Mary; Women start at 11 a.m., Men at noon. Men’s Soccer hosts Keene St. at 1 p.m. in the WAC, and Women’s Tennis hosts Plymouth St. for conference matchup at 1 p.m. on the Westside Tennis Courts. Men’s Rugby takes on St. Michael’s College on the Westside Campus Rec Field at 1 p.m.
Hockey takes on Trinity College at 8:20 p.m. in the Danbury Ice Arena on Saturday night, and they’ll be back on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. when they host Trinity College.
But if you’d rather get colorful on Sunday, WestConn Rec and the Program Activities Council will host “Run or Dye: Get Fit or Dye Trying,” a color run to benefit PAC programming, with registration beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Ives Concert Park.
