It’s shaping up to be a slow first weekend on campus at WestConn for everyone besides our fall sports teams. Thankfully, the Visual Arts Department came through for those of us who aren’t so athletically inclined. Head over to the Art Gallery in the VPAC to check out “American Subtitles,” an exhibition by Connecticut artists Andres Chaparro and Robert Charles Hudson. You can RSVP to the reception, to be held on Thursday, Aug. 29 in the VPAC Gallery from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/art-gallery-reception-american-subtitles-tickets-65526466425

If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, you’d better get ready for some (anything but) football. WestConn Women’s Soccer will open up the action on Friday, Aug. 30 when they travel to Troy, N.Y. to take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the RPI Tournament at 4 p.m. You can keep up with the Colonials via live stats here: https://rpiathletics.com/sidearmstats/wsoc/summary

They’ll be back at it against Buffalo State on Saturday, Aug. 31 in their second game of the RPI Tournament at 12:30 p.m. This time, it’s available to stream: https://rpiathletics.com/sports/2017/8/31/engineers-cup-video.aspx

WestConn Men’s Soccer managed to avoid pulling double duty this weekend. They’ll head to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for their season opener against Vassar at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30. You can watch it here: https://boxcast.tv/channel/womwqjg5sjfoxou7qi6j

WestConn Field Hockey will hit the road for their season opener against Ramapo 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30. They’ll return to the WAC on Saturday, Aug. 31 to take on William Paterson in their home opener at 1 p.m. Catch that game here: https://portal.stretchinternet.com/wcsu/#live

WestConn Volleyball will be in the O’Neill Center all weekend for the Colonial Classic. They’ll open their season with Emmanuel (Mass.) at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, followed by a double-header on Saturday, Aug. 31 with matchups against Penn State-Berks at 10 a.m. and Smith at 6 p.m. You can stream all three here: https://portal.stretchinternet.com/wcsu/#live
