Love Your Melon at WestConn

Say hello to WestConn’s newest organization, Love Your Melon.

Love Your Melon (LYM) is an apparel brand run by college students with the mission to give a hat to every child battling cancer in America.

For every hat that is sold, one is given to a child fighting cancer. More than 45,000 children have received hats from LYM’s buy one, give one program. Fifty percent of all proceeds go directly to cancer research and support of affected families.

“We are really excited to bring this organization to WCSU,” says Abby Massarelli, a nursing major and the team’s president. “Since there are few funding initiatives for cancer that goes directly to pediatric patients, it is important to spread the word about this organization.”

LYM has 11,000 crewmembers nationwide at 736 different campuses whose goals are to spread the word and promote the brand around those surrounding areas.

“One thing that LYM is most known for is their ‘superhero visits,’” says Massarelli. “Campus crews have the opportunity to bring hats to children with cancer either in the hospital or at home once certain levels are reached by their campus.”

Different levels are reached when people buy LYM gear through selecting WCSU’s campus during checkout. Users are also given the option to select a specific child to give a hat to.

If you select a piece that is sold out, you can preorder it and it will be sent to you once it’s available. And if you are waiting for a specific color or style, just follow LYM’s social media accounts to know when certain product releases are.

You can follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and find their website here.

“We are hoping to get out more on campus, so watch out for us in the student center,” says Masarelli. “[The] campus crew will be at Relay for Life this upcoming spring so make sure you come see us!”
