Listen up, lovers of theatre and hip-hop! WCSU has a special treat for you. At 6 p.m. on Feb. 23 in the Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the WCSU Midtown campus, Rapper and Hip-Hop artist Andrew “Fig” Figueroa will present his show, “Mixed-Race Mixtape.”
Hailing from Northampton, Massachusetts, Figueroa is already making significant strides in the hip-hop community with a national tour of “Mixed-Race Mixtape,” a theater piece he had written as part of his senior thesis.
In an interview with Gazettnett.com, Figueroa describes the show as “a concept rap album performed live in the theater space.” He goes on to explain, “It is a fun, involved, intimate and exciting show, where audience members will get the opportunity to be directly involved with the performance.”
An experimental piece of theatre, “Mixed-Race Mixtape” incorporates elements of spoken word, monologue, and rap in order to effectively communicate the concepts of racism and the struggle of growing up “mixed.”
Before the performance, an open mic session will be held. The performance is free and the public is invited to attend.
