Western Goalies again tops in the LEC, Fernandez and Trotta both named GOTW

Western Connecticut State University goal keepers have received several weekly awards from the Little East Conference during the 2015 season, and this week sophomore Jillian Fernandez (Columbia, CT) was named the Little East Conference women’s soccer goalie of the week, and junior goalie Kristy Trotta (Danbury, CT) has been named

Trotta recorded a shut-out in the Colonials 1-0 mid-week, non-conference contest against Manhattanville. In LEC action versus Bridgewater State, Trotta allowed one goal in 9-5 minutes of play in a thrilling doubleovertime 2-1 victory. She made 19 total saves in the two contests, which brings her to 106 total saves this season, with a save percentage of .862.

In Western Connecticut’s lone outing of the week, Fernandez helped the Colonials slide into a tie for second place in the league standings. Her five saves against UMass Boston were crucial as WCSU was able to seal a 2-1 win in double-overtime. Two of Fernandez’s saves came in the extra periods. She currently tops the LEC with a 1.07 goals against average.
